Well... My updated Bear Lake map is almost done. I'm still missing a few land marks like Rainbow Cove and The Pump House because I don't have accurate coordinates for them. What other land marks should be labeled? Let me know if you see errors such as having something labeled wrong. I'd like to mark all public concrete launches with a launch symbol. Which ones am I missing? It's 1.06 MB, so be patient if you click on the following link.

Your map looks great. However, I noticed there is one spot that is mis-labeled. You put "USU Jetty" on what should be Azure Cove Marina. The USU Jetty is only slightly north of Ideal Beach and for all practical purposes this jetty has been destroyed by years of high water and waves. I'd just put Azure Cove Marina where you currently have USU Jetty and not even include the USU Jetty since it is basically gone.

Sorry, but I just double checked the map and what you have labeled as Pickleville Jetty is actually the USU Jetty. Azure Cove Marina is where you have it labled as USU Jetty. There isn't anything called Pickleville Jetty.

Is the Pickelville jetty the same one that is behind the Sweetwater condos or at least the old sweetwater? What is the name of that new marina that is by Gus Rich point? WH2

The Marina by Guss point is called Ideal Beach RV park and Marina. In the summer they will launch boats up to 20' with a tractor. Last weekend there was no access other than the private property area and they charge for access, not sure what the charge though.
I have GPS coordinates of the pump house and rainbow cove if it would help locate them on the map???

If the water level ever comes up, will they allow the public to use the new marina? Two years ago we paid one dollar to drive through the private property into Sweetwater
to ice fish on the rockpile. WH2

That is a question I cannot answer. If I owned the property BFT'ERS would be free and all else would pay dearly! My goal is to be on the board of members for sweetwater and work issues for fisherman and access!

Thanks for the input guys. Sorry I wasn't able to get back to this thread yesterday. I brewed two 5 gallon batches of ale that pretty much took all day. On top of that, I've been feeling like you know what because of a cold.
AFDan52 - I figure people can download it and print it themselves. If you don't have a printer that will do the job you want, take the file to Kinkos and they'll print you a nice one.
Old_Coot - Not sure whether I want to include the beach launches or not. However, if somebody wants to send me the coordinates I'll consider it.
BLFG - Thanks. I'll make the corrections. Even though it's been obliterated, I think I'll keep the USU Jetty labeled because many fishing reports in the past have refered to it.
fish1on - Thanks. I'll change the name of the marina. Yes I would like the coordinates of the Pump House and Rainbow Cove. Even though the placement of the labels is general (no actual point) I've been trying to put them as close to the actual point as I can.
Teroy - Fish-N-Map ([url "http://www.fishnmap.com/"]http://www.fishnmap.com/[/url]) has done a great Stawberry - Soldier Creek Reservoir map. That's the one I use. If they had one for Bear Lake I probably never would have spent time on one myself.
If any of you guys have info you think I'd be interested in for the map and you don't want to keep bouncing this thread back to the top, PM it to me. The file size is now 2.74 MB. I turned all JPG compression off so it will not get fuzzy quite as quick if you enlarge it.

A map Datum is a reference model of the earth's shape. All maps use them and when comparing GPS coordinates to a map you should use the same datum for best positioning. Hope this helped!!

A given set of coordinates in one datum can be a quarter of a mile off from the same coordinates of another datum. The fact that there is more than one datum has something to do with the fact that the earth is a sphere rather than flat. I am VERY far from knowledgeable about datums but I do know that if you are trying to find a specific location (like GeoCashers do), you'd better make sure your GPS unit is set up to match the same datum as the cordinates that are given you. All GPS units allow you to change datums in their setup screens.[/size][/font]
[font "Comic Sans MS"][size 2]The two most common datums used are NAD27 and WGS84. WGS84 is the default for most GPS units. But many maps show Long/Lat in NAD27.[/size][/font]

But if someone gives you coordinates and you plan to get close to that spot, then you need to pay attention to datums. Thanks Fish1on and Old_Coot, that sure makes sense. I was given a set of coordinates from Chuck some years ago, when I was just staring to fish Willard. When I went out to find the spot I found out it was not even in Willard bay but about 1/4 miles south of the water. I did not know there was more that one set of datums, so that clear up a lot, thanks guy. It sure is amazing what you can learn on a fishing site. WH2
