Fraser valley fishing report

Fraser Valley report for the week of March 20 /2002

Sign up now for our one day fly fishing seminar.
March 23
The 1 day seminar will be held on the Vedder river, during the 6 hour seminar Erik will show you many of the techniques that are used throughout British Columbia for Steelhead, during the seminar you will also fish for Steelhead with Erik and you will learn about:

We have now begun to accept registration for our upcoming fly casting lessons. This year we have 3 locations, Ladner, Langley and Abbotsford. Please contact us for more information or visit our seminar page at http://www.guidebc.com/flycastseminar.html

Next Available Seminar -May 4, 11 & 18, 2002 (Ladner)
Next Available Seminar -May 12, 19 & 25, 2002 (Langley)
Next Available Seminar - May 12, 19 & 26, 2002 (Abbotsford)

Fraser River
Cutthroat fishing continues to be a bit on the slow side. We have not yet recovered from the last cold spell and now it looks like we are going into another week of unstable weather. As soon as we get some consistent warm weather all heck is going to break loose. The salmon fry will begin to emerge and the trout will be hungry and aggressive. Until then it is still worthwhile searching the sloughs, streams and rivers of the Fraser Valley for that elusive Cutthroat trout.

Sturgeon
Sturgeon fishing was very good last weekend. The tides were perfect for a late morning start time with the best bite coming between 11 am and 2 pm. We managed two very good days averaging a dozen fish a day with our largest fish just over 6 feet. The best baits have been salmon roe, Oolichans and Lamprey. Look for this great fishing to continue through the weekend. The best bite time for this weekend is going to be early morning starting at 6 am on Saturday and 7 am on Sunday. Bite times usually last 2 to 3 hours so you should see some good action most of the morning but keep in mind sturgeon will bite all day long.

Vedder
Fishing has been excellent this week for many anglers who visited the Vedder River. The lower river has produced excellent results, as has the upper river near Alison Pools. Water conditions are perfect with moderate flows and clear visibility.
It’s going to be a bit difficult to predict water conditions for this weekend. If the weather stay cold then conditions should remain excellent. Water conditions will slowly deteriorate if the temperatures begin to rise especially late morning early afternoon. We still have a couple spots available for this weekends fly fishing for Steelhead seminar, please call for details.

Chehalis
The Chehalis River is in great shape for the weekend. The Chehalis Valley area is a bit colder than the Fraser Valley, usually a couple of degrees. This means the chances of this river staying in great shape even during warming trends is much better. Early morning is always a good time to fish this river, bait, spinners and fly’s are all productive lures used to catch steelhead. Try fishing the lower canyon area’s as it can be very productive at this time of year.
If you’re looking for an updated report for the Chehalis try calling Kent Outdoors in Agassiz Toll Free at 1-877-796-0006

Harrison
The Harrison River is once again in great shape. Good numbers of Cutthroat are in the river but not always easy to catch. Fly-fishing is one of the more productive methods used to catch these fish but spinners and bait works as well. Remember that we are only a few weeks away from some of the best action of the year. April should prove to be a great month to fish for Cutthroat trout. Our annual fly-casting lessons begin in May, see our website for more details.

Seat sale- Fly Fishing Lillooet River
This trip is something you’ll never forget. We will be departing early am on April 7 from the south shore of Harrison Lake. After a breathtaking 1 ½ hr Jet boat ride across Harrison Lake you will enter the lower Lillooet River for an exciting jet boat ride through the shallow tail outs only inches deep to the roaring rapids throwing water over the bow. Each cast has the potential of producing that trophy trout, char or steelhead.
Limited Space available – cost $375.00 per person including shore lunch and beverages. Call or e-mail Vic for more information.

Remember to conserve your catch
Tight Lines and we will see you on the water
Vic Carrao
www.guidebc.com
sts@guidebc.com
604-880- FLYS(3597)
