Fishing Near Winnemucca
#1
I'm going to be at Winnemucca, NV for a few days later this month. Never been there before.

I will have some time to fish while there so any tips you Nevada guys can give me will be appreciated.

I'm not sure but I think most members on the NV board are around LV. Here are some links to some info that might help:

I wanted to go to Knott Creek someday but now I see it is single barbless hooks only.
HMMM. That means NO KIDS. Used to just be artificial only. Guess I will just stick with the Rubies.

I have hunted that area for years. Havent been the for about 5 years though. Knot Creek has some really big trout, trophy class fish. Onion Valley is close by and usually has good stocked trout. Depending on how much the ranchers drain it down but this time of year its usually holding good water. The best is Blue lakes which is a lake you have to hike into about a mile. Crystal clear lake at the top of a nice mountain range. All these lakes are somewhat close together. You just have to watch the road coming in. You can hit it from the north end (near Mcdermit) or come from the south side, which i hear is the better road. Tough winters can wreck it and depending on BLM or the ranchers that use the water in Onion the road may not be well maintained...That said i have never had a big problem just a little bumpy. All lakes have decent areas to throw out a tent. You get handful of hunters and campers in there this time of year but nothing bad. This was our number one hunting spot for years just because of the water....and the big bucks.

here are a few pics to help you out. There are from mid august a few years back so you get an idea of the scenery.
