another stupid law from fed.gov written for some bridge in MD or DC and applied across the country.

it's stupid they moved the buoys out and robbed everyone of the fishing there.

I will be calling those numbers and complaining about it.

if someone wants to take a bridge they are not going to do it under the cover of ice fishing. If someone really wants that bridge gone they'll do it.

make sure everyone calls and complains about it. I'm going to ask them to move the buoys back in.

lol, actually it's Al'Azamiyah.......and if you don't know how to spell that, spell checker is your friend........C'mon, that's funny [Wink], the heat in the kitchen or something.....Seriously, kochanut, we are trying to figure out the reason for the placement of the buoys near the dam. If we don't like it we have a voice, we can change things. It's petty compared to the 'real' problems.Nothing personal kochanut, we're all friends here.

I know of at least one DNR employee who is a member, maybe he will chime in to clear this up. I did hear from several people I know that the people fishing in that off limits area were taking some big crappie, one guy took 17 yesterday. We fished in another area of the lake and took a few nice perch but no crappie.

I'm not suggesting violating the rules (although peaceful civil disobedience is one of the best ways to express dislike of s stupid rule. Perhaps if we could muster several hundred ice fishers and all of us fish dam side of the buoys and then call the administrators above to come join us so we could explain why we don't like the buoys moved out and away from the dam so far)

but to say "rules is rules and if you don't like them move is not the right answer. Rules, by nature of existence, don't make them good rules. There is a rule in Idaho that you can't be seen publicly without smiling. For quite some time there was a rule in Ogden that you couldn't ride a horse backwards on main street. There are lots of dumb rules. This is another one.

Protecting the Dam is a great goal. NOBODY wants some ahole terrorist to damage the dam and cause untold amounts of destruction, but moving ice fishers away from the dam doesn't do anything. If someone wants to blow up the dam or damage it, they'll drive a huge truck bomb onto it, or fly a small plane into it, or most likely dive and damage it under the water line where it's more vulnerable.

all I'm saying is because some nameless bureaucrat in DC decided that all dams have to have a clearance zone of 200 yards, we now have a huge clearance zone on our little, low risk, non-terrorist targets here in utah.

Contact those managers, or your reps and complain about it. get the buoys changed back to their previous limits. I will be calling them as well.

Does anyone really think that moving the bouys up will stop somebody that wants to blow up a dam?

i would personally want them moved so i could fish more of the narrows this summer lol, and to answer your question no... if some one wanted to bad enough they could drive a truck loaded with a fertilizer bomb right across and set it off, or drive across and walk down to the base of the dam and set one off.

[cool][#0000ff]HOKAY! A "[#000000]low level radar system to detect water borne intrusion.[/#000000] ". That generates a couple of other questions...such as who gets the signal when something crosses the line...and what do they do about it?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I guess an automatic surface to surface missile launch will slow down those terrorist fishermen. But what happens when a REAL threat happens...like a big boat full of anfo headed full speed toward the dam? How long would it take for a signal to reach appropriate authorities and how fast could they react to prevent disaster? My guess is that some low level civil servant will notice a red light blinking on a board about the same time they feel the shock wave from the explosion. That is if the monitoring station is even within proximity of Ogden. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Yeah. Shock and awe. Sorry for the negativity. I simply fail to be convinced that this plan was well thought out...except for the part about inconveniencing fishermen.[/#0000ff]

The laws are the laws and are not meant to be broke. Any officer that ask me to jump i will ask him or her how high. Have you ever had the job they have? Or a Dwr officer. STOP PLEASE FELLAS OBEY THE LAWS. THE LAKE IS TO BIG TO BICKER OVER.

What a laugh.... our tax dollars at work. Installing a " low level radar system to detect water borne intrusion". This is a great example of a total waste of homeland security money or Utah tax dollars.

The key word is "Detect" and not "Prevent".

I always wanted to know just before my number is coming up so I can know.

I saw this system first hand at Rockport this fall by the spillway. Almost ran into the sonar bouy with my boat trolling and you know what, no one came out to greet me at the lake. But I'd assume that some guy was watching me on a camera after he was alerted to the potential intrusion and just went back to sleep.

I would have thought otherwise since I had two 5 gallon tanks of propane in the boat for my heater which could have been construed as something other than a heater.

We will all probably be lucky in that the bid was awarded to the low bidder and will msot likely stop working after a period of time and be shut down until a more costly less obsolesent solution can replace it.

Wow so much for the capacity for individual critical thinking. So if an officer says shoot yourself right now, I just simply think you should do so, would you do it too? I wasn't going to chime in but this is just too much. LOL.
