Tuna and bass season are around the corner

Saltwater Fishing, Tuna Family

Now that the Tuna ban did not go through, we can start to think about fishing again. The fishing season is just a couple months away and it should be a good one. Put those 50’s away and take out those 80’s.
The tuna fishing should be really good this year with the fish averaging just under 70 inches. Last year the average size fish was around 65 inches. They were just under the sellable size which is 73in but, with the fish averaging a little bigger this year, there will defiantly be bigger ones around. So put away those little 50’s and the cheep fighting harnesses and strap yourself in to one of the big boys this year.
The bass fishing for the most part will be a little slow this season in the surrounding bays due to the lack of pogies we are expecting. Early in the season will be your best chance to catch multiple fish using live mackerel. The macks come in early May and hang around for a few weeks close to shore. You can catch them for about a week or so longer up off of Green Harbor. Great bass and tuna bait.
I will be posting a few times a week once it gets closer to the fishing season. Check the High Hook Blog for the latest and most accurate news from the bays to the bank during the season.
